Most extinguishers sold in Saudi Arabia have a red body with a coloured band or label that shows the extinguishing agent, following the European EN 3 coding above.

Choosing the size

  • 1–2 kg — vehicles and small rooms.
  • 4–6 kg (about 10–12 lb) — offices, shops, corridors and most workplaces. The Mobiak MBK12-10PA-UL 10 lb dry powder and the Mobiak 10 lb CO2 are in this range.
  • 9–12 kg — warehouses, workshops and higher-risk areas.
  • Wheeled units — open plant areas, fuel and chemical storage and loading bays, where a larger discharge is needed. The Ansul 150 lb ABC wheel unit is built for these.

Where to put them and how many

Mount extinguishers on the wall near exits and along escape routes, visible and unobstructed, away from heat sources. Under NFPA 10, which the Saudi Fire Code (SBC 801) draws on, the travel distance from any point on a Class A floor to an extinguisher should not exceed 22.9 m (75 ft); Class B areas have their own shorter limits based on the unit's rating. The exact count for your building is set by your safety consultant and the Civil Defense inspection — send us the layout and we will help you build the list.

Inspection and maintenance

  • Monthly — a visual check: pressure gauge in the green, pin and seal intact, hose clear, no damage.
  • Every year — maintenance by a licensed contractor, recorded on the tag.
  • Hydrostatic test — every 5 years for CO2, water and foam units, and every 12 years for dry powder units (NFPA 10).
  • Recharge any extinguisher immediately after use, even if it was only partly discharged.

Training your staff

An extinguisher only helps if someone can use it. The FLAIM Extinguisher V3 lets staff practise on realistic virtual fires with a weighted extinguisher, without discharging real units or lighting real fires — useful for regular drills in offices, schools and plants.

Frequently asked questions

Which fire extinguisher is best for an office or a shop?

A 4–6 kg (10–12 lb) ABC dry powder unit covers most office and retail risks. Add a CO2 unit where there are server racks, electrical panels or equipment you do not want covered in powder.

Can a dry powder extinguisher be used on electrical fires?

Yes, ABC dry powder is rated for Class C (electrical) fires. CO2 is preferred around sensitive electronics because it leaves no residue.

Do fire extinguishers expire?

There is no single expiry date. An extinguisher stays in service as long as it passes its monthly checks, annual maintenance and periodic hydrostatic test — every 5 years for CO2, water and foam, and every 12 years for dry powder. Replace any unit that is damaged, corroded or fails a test.

What does UL listed mean?

The model has been tested and certified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) against the relevant standard for extinguishers. Ask for the listing documents with your quote.

Do you supply wheeled extinguishers for warehouses and plants?

Yes. The Ansul 150 lb ABC wheel unit is available for large open areas, fuel and chemical storage and loading bays.
