Fabric weight is the first decision and the one most often got wrong. Lighter poly-cotton is more comfortable in heat but wears through faster and is not flame-retardant; a 240 GSM coverall lasts longer but is heavier to work in. Flame-retardant is a treatment or a fibre, not a colour — read the standard printed on the garment. Arc-flash clothing is rated in cal/cm², and that rating belongs to the whole system, suit and hood together.
