Choosing fire protection equipment for a facility
Start from the hazard, not the product. What burns in the space decides the extinguisher type, what has to be detected decides the alarm devices, and the building's use and size decide whether sprinklers, fire doors and a water supply are required. In Saudi Arabia the reference for all of this is the Saudi Fire Code (SBC 801) and the inspections of the General Directorate of Civil Defense; your consultant or safety officer translates them into a list for your building, and we supply that list.

What inspectors and buyers usually ask for
- Listed or approved equipment. Ask for the listing (UL, FM or equivalent) and the conformity documents with the quote, not after delivery.
- The right number in the right place. Extinguisher count and position depend on floor area, hazard and travel distance; under NFPA 10, which SBC 801 draws on, no point on a Class A floor should be more than 22.9 m (75 ft) from an extinguisher.
- A maintenance trail. Monthly visual checks, annual maintenance by a licensed contractor, and the tags that prove both.
- Doorsets, not just doors. A fire-rated door keeps its rating only with rated hardware: closer, hinges and latching lock.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a dry powder and a CO2 extinguisher?
Dry powder (ABC) covers Class A, B and C fires and is the general-purpose choice for most buildings, but it leaves a fine residue. CO2 leaves nothing behind, which makes it the choice for electrical rooms, servers and labs, but it is not effective on deep-seated Class A fires such as paper or wood.
How many fire extinguishers does my facility need?
It depends on floor area, the hazard and the travel distance to the nearest unit. Civil Defense requirements under SBC 801 apply; NFPA 10, which the code draws on, sets a maximum of 22.9 m to an extinguisher on a Class A floor. Send us your layout and we can help count, but the final number is set by your safety consultant and Civil Defense inspection.
Are the products certified?
