Choosing a Loctite threadlocker
Strength is a decision about how the fastener will come apart: purple 222 for small screws removed by hand, blue 242 / 243 for general nuts and bolts removed with normal tools (243 tolerates lightly oily parts), and red 271 for permanent assemblies that need heat to undo.
Applying it
- Clean and dry the threads; oil reduces strength (243 is the more forgiving choice).
- Apply a few drops where the nut will sit on the bolt, not on the end of the thread.
- Assemble and torque as normal. Parts handle within minutes; full strength builds over about 24 hours at room temperature.
Loctite 401 is an instant adhesive for bonding small parts, not a threadlocker. See the full lubricants range, including WD-40 for freeing seized fasteners, or order through the quote request page.
